Week 16

In this week, I have to make an .exe file for my game so it can be play in any PC.

It took me 2 hours to get it right, because I was using another version of Unreal Frontend which is the program to made my game become .exe file. Then I tried with the same version as my UDK and it works.

After I tested it, something went wrong. I can't shoot properly in my game, it was pretty different when I played in UDK. Eventhough it's not that bad, but still it doesn't give the player as when I played with UDK.

After I finished with creating my .exe file I started to polish everything. Add more static meshes, add more lighting, and working on the animations.

Week 15

In this week I did a lot of play testing with my friends. It helped me a lot trough the process.
for example, the light in put in front of the keys

Because my friend was confused about where is the key. Then I come up with the idea of putting green light to indicate the keys and blue light to indicate the destructible objects.

In this week I created 4 cinematic, the opening scene, when the player got all the keys, boss scene, and the ending. These are some images of my cinematic

Week 12 - 14

This was the most difficult part in my development process.
It consists a lot of logical thinking and broad knowledge of the pre-sets in UDK.
The image above is the whole kismet in my game. Every part has different function.

In kismet, it's all what happens in my level. The movement of enemies, firing behavior, animating doors, cinematics, toggle light, particle system, and when the player collect all the keys.

First, I started everything with the easiest one which was animating the door. It uses Unreal
Kismet to set everything up and Unreal Matinee to start the animation.

In these week I made the 3 cinematic. Opening scene for the prison, scene from where you got all the keys, the boss scene, and the ending scene which was the most difficult part.

These are some cinematic from each scene.

Week 11

Outdoor Environment of the prison and the Entrance. I put Rocks, Cave, Waterfall.

Week 9 - Week 10

These weeks was the most productive week that I had. It's all about putting all the static meshes, fractured mesh, and it took almost 3 weeks to get everything right.
I planned everything from which part goes first to put the static mesh and I started with the prison room. Well, I did some before but it not quite appealing to me, so I modified everything. This is what I come up for. Wires hanging from top, messy room, and some destructible objects.

The next thing was I put a lot of static meshes inside my prison. Like you can see from the image below. It's all inside the prison.

Week 7 - Week 8

So yeah, I haven't updated my blog since week 6..Good thing I wrote notes of what happened in my level eventhough I won't put high details in this blog.
After I deleted the spiral stair, Now I move on to texturing all the plane.

I put steel looking texture for the outdoor of my prison room, and put tile texture for the inside room. It took me 2 hours to get the correct texture and the right size
e for room textures. The reason I put steel texture for top, bottom, front, and back of my prison room simply because this prison is half technology and half demonic.

Every advanced technology will have steel.
is texture a rusty steel texture where it gives the old looking prison as well.

I put tile material for the inside was because to show people that there was a living creature lives inside the prison.

After I finished attaching all the texture for prison rooms, Next I move on to my prison side.
Where I put tile texture, organic tile texture, and grate pipes for the side way.

After I am done with the texture for both prison side. There was something missing in the middle of the prison. After I looked up my image reference, I forgot to made a watch tower.
Then I went straight making the watchtower.

I put a rusty steel as well for it but with a different colour. It took me almost 2-3 hours to made this watchtower since I had to make the window for each level inside it so player can jump out easily from it. The inside texture inside it is the same with the outside.

Week 6 - Without Stairs in the Middle

The 1st Image is where I tried to make sliding door where it doesn't happened :(

The 2nd image is the prison without staris in the middle where I think it starts to annoyed me :)

This is the bottom part of my prison, I just added one room on the left hand side.

Week 6 - Prison

I added bridge to the prison room, and I am making the bottom part right now.

I am making a deathmatch map, so I have to balance the level and this is something new for me.
I was thinking just to copy paste the left side to the right side, then I am thinking that it doesn't seems right. So, I will make each part one by one by balancing it.

Week 6

I haven't updated my blog since week 5, since a lot of work to do. Suddenly, I was thinking to make a death match map.

So basically, the map still the prison theme, but I might change the story a little bit. So the goal of this map is to be the winner with like 20 kills or more. The prison was in havoc, all the guards ran away, so they locked in the prison, and the only way to get out is to eliminate all the players to get the key. Player with 20 kills win the match and so on.

7 Ways of Concept Statement

7 Ways to Create a Concept Statement:

1. Think of the mood you want to communicate, the atmosphere
of your environment? Is it chaos? Isolation?
- It's an isolated place in Zeroth's jungle. From the outside, it doesn't look like a prison but it has some dark, creepy, obnoxious, and evil atmosphere around it. It's always night time in in Zeroth's jungle, it was believed that the witch put some magical spell around the jungle to keep it away from the outsider. Same goes with the feel from the outside of the prison, but inside, the magma from beneath the prison heating in.

2. What is the story of your map? What is the purpose of your
environment that exists right now? What is your map about?
- Simon, our main character, from Glyph race. He embolden to ask for help from Zhi'ka, the high ranked criminal in Blazing Dome. My map basically consists of 4 level in one big level. The purpose of the environment is to give the player the feel of dark scary prison, so it makes the situation become intense.

3. Use descriptive words, adjectives.
4. What is the objective in your map. What is your map’s theme?
- The character needs to go to level 4 or boss level to talk to Zhi'ka and ask him for help to defeat Grodicon. On the way to level 4, Simon are getting some obstacles, like enemies and some little puzzles to get through.

5. Where does it take place? Time period? Location? Season?
- It's in Zeroth jungle and it's midnight.

6. Describe the situation of your environment.
- As I said before.

7. What is the compelling gameplay experience you want the
player to have?
- First, I want the player to experience the feel of the level. Secondly, I want the player not only do the action, they have to solve a little puzzle. Thirdly, It's a first person player, but, each race have different weapons, different skills, so it gives varieties in the gameplay.

Week 2 - Game Level

The level that I am going to make is the Zeroth Prison. So basically, the level is the floating prison, where it has poison lava under it, so the prisoners can't get out from this prison. It has magical barrier around it as well, so it won't give the prisoners to get out easily.

I give some extra features like trees and branches. I want to give the Nature look as well, so it's not that frightening, as what we think the prison is. Even though, it's not that scary, but it keeps all the prisoners afraid of escaping. The trees is not ordinary trees, it has some poison inside it. So whenever the prisoner trying to escape, the trees will spread the poison.

For more information, I'll give some raft sketches on the other post after this

Week 1 - Story

Week 1

I rethink the story, because the last one doesn't seem quite right and not strong enough to hold a game based on that story.

Ethropia, land of paradise. There are 4 races lives there, Glyph, Zeroth, Animorph and Robot. Glyph is a race that looks like half human and half angel, they live in Aurora. On the other hand, Zeroth, is a race that looks like half human and half demon, they live in Blazing Dome. Animorph is a unique race where looks like animal but they can morph into Giant Feral. Robot, as you guys expected, is a race that using machine even they body consists of all machinery, but they have heart that can feel the emotion. One day, the creatures from outer space came, and they called the “Grodicon”. They come to the world to conquer and have dominion on it. The 4 races doesn't like that their world got conquered by Grodicon then they begin a war, a long long war. In the end, Grodicon conquered almost a half of Ethropia. Then Simon, the one from the Glyph race, think that he needs to put up an end by combining the power of all 4 races. And the story begin..
